How to Use Statistical Indicators in Response Analytics

Statistical Indicators provide a quick statistical summary of responses for rating, scale, and other numeric question types. They help you understand the overall response pattern by displaying key metrics such as the mean, median, mode, standard deviation, and distribution symmetry, along with a visual representation of the data.

How to access the statistical indicators

  1. Open your survey.

  2. Navigate to Analytics.

  3. Select the Response Analytics tab.

  4. Scroll to the question you want to analyze.

  5. Click the Statistical Indicators icon from the floating toolbar on the right side of the chart.

The Statistical Indicators view will open, displaying both a graphical representation and a detailed statistical summary for the selected question.

Understanding the Statistical Indicators

After clicking the Statistical Indicators icon, two sections are generated:

1. Statistical Distribution Chart

The chart provides a visual representation of your response distribution.

It includes:

  • Mean – The average score of all responses.

  • Median – The middle value when all responses are arranged in order.

  • Mode – The most frequently selected response.

  • Distribution Curve – Shows how responses are spread across the scale.

  • Frequency Scale – Displays how often each response value occurs.

This visualization helps you quickly identify whether responses are clustered around a particular value or spread across the entire scale.

2. Statistical Summary Table

Below the chart, you'll find a detailed breakdown of the statistical data.

  • Mean – Displays the average response value across all submitted responses.

  • Median – Shows the middle response value when all responses are arranged in ascending order.

  • Mode – Indicates the response option selected most frequently by respondents.

  • Standard Deviation – Measures how much the responses vary from the average. A lower value indicates responses are closely grouped, while a higher value suggests greater variation.

  • Frequency Distribution Symmetry – Describes the overall shape of the response distribution, indicating whether the responses are positively skewed, negatively skewed, or approximately symmetrical.

Why Use Statistical Indicators?

Statistical Indicators help you:

  • Quickly understand the overall trend in responses.

  • Identify the most common response using the mode.

  • Measure the average sentiment using the mean.

  • Evaluate response consistency using the standard deviation.

  • Detect skewed response patterns for deeper insights.

  • Support data-driven decision-making with quantitative analysis.

The Statistical Indicators feature provides a comprehensive statistical overview of your survey data, combining visual charts with detailed metrics. Whether you're analyzing customer satisfaction, NPS-style ratings, Likert scales, or any scored question, these indicators make it easier to interpret response patterns, identify trends, and draw meaningful conclusions from your survey results.
