How to carry over variables from one form/survey to another

Updated over 3 months ago

In BlockSurvey, carrying over variables and its data between forms or surveys is easy. This guide will walk you through the process using a simple two-part survey example.

Example Scenario

You’re conducting a two-part survey. In the first survey, you gather the participant’s name and email. In the second survey, you use their email to personalize the survey and track responses.

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Create the First Survey: Collect user information, including their name and email.

2. Create the Second Survey: Design this follow-up survey to include questions that will use the email collected in the first survey.

3. Set Up Variables:

  • In both surveys, navigate to Settings->Assignment & Formulas->Text Variables.

  • Create identical variables in both surveys for consistent data handling.

4. Configure the Redirect:

  • Publish the second survey and copy its URL.

  • In the first survey, go to the Submit-> Redirect Logic tab.

  • Paste the URL of the second survey and append the variables as query parameters in the URL.

5. Test the Setup:

  • Publish the first survey.

  • Submit a test response to ensure data is carried over correctly before sharing the survey with respondents.

By following these steps, you can efficiently carry over variables between surveys to streamline data collection and enhance personalization. For further assistance, contact us at [email protected].
