How to use Assignment function in Blocksurvey

What is an Assignment function?

The Assignment function lets you assign a score or value to an answer given in response to a question in the survey. It helps you evaluate responses.

In BlockSurvey, for Number, Rating, and Opinion Scale question types, the numeric values provided by respondents are automatically calculated and added to the default variable called Score under Settings -> Assignment & Formulas -> Numeric Expressions. But remember, you can also customize scores for the questions if you prefer.

Here are two ways you can assign scores in BlockSurvey:

  1. Direct Weight/Score Assignment.
  2. Logic-Based Assignment.

How to assign weight/score to an option directly?

Here's how you can do it for a Single Choice question:

  1. Create your Single Choice question and list the options.
  2. Below the answer options, click on Show More -> Assign Weight/Score button.

  1. A pop-up will appear with all the given answer options. From here, you can assign the weight/score for each option according to your preferences.

The assigned weight/score is automatically calculated and added to the default variable Score.

Note: Assigning weight/score directly to answer options is available for few question types like Choose Single, Choose Multiple , Drop Down Single, Drop Down Multiple, Matrix Single, and Matrix Multiple.

How to assign logic-based scores?

Now, let's say you want to give scores for each question in a quiz. Here's what you need to do:

  1. Go to the Assignment tab of a question and click Add Assignment to add an assignment logic.
  2. Click Add Assignment to assign a score, which will be calculated and added to the default Score variable.

  1. If you prefer, you can also assign custom expression names to each assignment by clicking Also assign to custom expression. You can use these names to perform additional calculations by creating your custom numeric expressions.

Note: Remember to use unique names to make it easier to reference.

  1. Additionally, you can also include text for each assignment by assigning it to a default or custom text variable. To do this click the Add assignment.

Note: Custom text variables can be created under Settings -> Assignment & Formulas -> Text variables.

Custom numeric expressions can be created under Settings ->Assignment & Formulas -> Numeric Expressions.

Give it a Try! You can easily assign and track scores, helping you gain valuable insights from your survey responses.
